HMAS Launceston in Brisbane – March 22, 2009

We had an unusual sighting in the Brisbane CBD late in the week — a Royal Australian Navy ship pulled into port in the city for the first time.

The HMAS Launceston, an Armidale class patrol boat, was on leave from its usual task of protecting Australia’s northeastern borders and fisheries. The Launceston sailed up the Brisbane River from Naval HQ at Bulimba and docked at Riverside in the CBD for 3 days.

I had the chance to snap a few photos on my ferry ride into work.
